Some people in Novo's Wegovy trial had body scans before and after. The scans showed where the weight went.

Of the 30 pounds the average person lost, about 12 were lean mass, the part that includes muscle. The other 18 were fat.

Muscle is what keeps you strong as you age, and it burns calories even when you're sitting still.

The scans came from the STEP 1 trial. Four US nutrition and obesity groups did that math in a 2025 advisory, then named two habits that protect muscle: lifting weights at least three times a week, and more protein, built around your goal weight rather than what you weigh today (Obesity, May 30, 2025).

Protein and a gym cost money, so the shot is the easiest line on that bill to cut. Here is where compounded semaglutide is cheapest this week.
