On September 29 the Justice Department put one of the two men charged in the scheme in front of a judge in Tampa. Prosecutors say the pens came from China and went to US distributors "at deeply discounted prices."
Hold on to "deeply discounted." The FDA keeps a list of warning signs for buying medicine online, and one line on it reads: "Offers deep discounts or prices that seem too good to be true."
You shop on price, like most people paying cash for this. The same FDA page lists four signs of a safe pharmacy, and the price is not one of them.
A safe pharmacy asks for a prescription. It prints a US street address and a phone number. It has a licensed pharmacist you can call, and a license from your state board of pharmacy.
The prescription is the fastest of the four to check. If a site will sell you a GLP-1 before anyone reads your health history, close the tab. For a pharmacy website, the FDA's license finder links every state's search.
