Does Cigna cover Wegovy and Zepbound?
On some plans, yes. Each employer picks whether Cigna covers Wegovy and Zepbound, so two people with the same card can get different answers.
Cigna's national policy IP0206 covers Wegovy and Zepbound for obesity with prior authorization at BMI 30, or BMI 27 with a weight-related comorbidity, after three months of behavioral and dietary change. The same policy says on its first page that "weight loss medications are specifically excluded under many benefit plans," for both employer groups and individual and family plans, and that your plan document overrides the policy.

Cigna and Express Scripts cover Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes when the plan approves prior authorization, per Cigna National Formulary policy CNF749. The policy approves Mounjaro for one year for patients 18 and older who have a type 2 diabetes diagnosis. Cigna will not cover Mounjaro for weight loss; the policy lists weight loss without type 2 diabetes as not covered. For weight management, the covered drug is Zepbound, the same tirzepatide molecule, FDA-approved for obesity.

Yes, with prior approval. Cigna pays for Ozempic once your prescriber gets the plan to sign off.
Cigna covers Ozempic for type 2 diabetes when the patient is 18 or older, and prior authorization is required. Approvals run for one year at a time. Cigna will not cover Ozempic for weight loss. It is not FDA-approved for that use, and the policy lists it as not medically necessary. That indication belongs to Wegovy, the same semaglutide at a higher dose. Cigna, through its Express Scripts pharmacy benefit, covers Rybelsus for type 2 diabetes with prior authorization. The current policy approves it for one year when the patient is 18 years of age or older and has type 2 diabetes, with no step therapy and no A1C threshold in the standard criteria. Rybelsus is not covered for weight loss, because it is FDA-approved only for type 2 diabetes. The weight-loss semaglutide is Wegovy, which is given by injection and reviewed under a separate policy.
