Mounjaro dosing: 2.5 mg to 15 mg with no maintenance list
Mounjaro starts at 2.5 mg once weekly and rises in 2.5 mg increments, each step after at least 4 weeks on the current dose and only if more glycemic control is needed. The maximum is 15 mg weekly in adults and 10 mg in pediatric patients. Unlike Zepbound, which is the same molecule, the Mounjaro label names no maintenance dosages at all.
| What the label says | Mounjaro |
|---|---|
| Starting dose | 2.5 mg once weekly |
| How it climbs | 2.5 mg increments after at least 4 weeks on the current dose, if more glycemic control is needed |
| Maintenance | The label names no maintenance list, only a maximum |
| Maximum | 15 mg in adults, 10 mg in pediatric patients |
| If you miss one | Within 4 days (96 hours), take it. Past 4 days, skip it and take the next dose on the regular day. |
| Moving your dosing day | Allowed if at least 3 days (72 hours) separate the two doses. |
| A step you cannot tolerate | Escalation is conditional on needing more glycemic control, with a four-week floor. The label says nothing about tolerability-driven pauses. |
| Coming back after a gap | The label says nothing about restarting. |
The label names a ceiling and no target
Read the Zepbound label and you get a list: 5 mg, 10 mg or 15 mg, pick one. Read the Mounjaro label and there is no list. It gives a starting dose, an increment, a four-week floor between steps and a maximum, and it makes each step conditional on needing more glycemic control.
That is why a Mounjaro prescription can sit at 5 mg for a year without departing from the label, and why nothing in the label describes what to do when a dose is hard to tolerate. It does not carry a pause sentence, and it does not carry a restart protocol either: we searched the full structured product label for every form of reinitiate, re-escalate, restart and interruption and found nothing.
Every Mounjaro price on the chart is an insurance copay
Of the 25 programs GLP Chart tracks, one publishes any Mounjaro figure at all, according to GLP Chart's price check on August 31, 2026. Every figure that does exist is an insurance copay behind a type 2 diabetes requirement, not a cash price. Several more list Mounjaro among the drugs they will prescribe and say nothing about what it costs.

Storage and the room-temperature clock
The single-dose pen and vial run a 21-day clock. The multi-dose vial and the KwikPen run a 30-day one, and once opened they run three deadlines at the same time.
| Product | In the fridge | Out of the fridge |
|---|---|---|
| Mounjaro single-dose pen or vial | 36 to 46 F | If needed, up to 86 F for a total of 21 days, then throw it away. |
| Mounjaro multi-dose vial or KwikPen, unopened | 36 to 46 F until the expiration date | If stored at room temperature, up to 86 F, throw it away after 30 days. |
| Mounjaro multi-dose vial or KwikPen, in use | 36 to 46 F | Up to 86 F in the original carton. Throw it away after a total of 30 days at room temperature, 30 days from first use, or four weekly doses, whichever comes first, even with medicine left in it. |
Do not freeze it and do not use one that has been frozen.
Frequently asked questions
What is the maximum dose of Mounjaro?
15 mg once weekly in adults and 10 mg once weekly in pediatric patients.
What if I miss a Mounjaro dose?
Take it within 4 days, which the label writes as 96 hours. Past 4 days, skip it and take the next dose on the regular day. The label says nothing about restarting after a longer gap.
Is Mounjaro dosing the same as Zepbound dosing?
The ladder is the same shape and the maximum is the same 15 mg, but the labels are not interchangeable. Zepbound names 5 mg, 10 mg and 15 mg as maintenance dosages and carries a sentence about lowering one a patient cannot tolerate. Mounjaro names no maintenance dosages and makes every step conditional on needing more glycemic control.
Can I change the day I inject Mounjaro?
The label allows it as long as at least 3 days, 72 hours, separate the two doses.
Every dosage sentence on this page is written to a prescriber, not to you. Holding a dose, dropping back or stopping changes what the drug is doing to your blood sugar as well as your appetite. Take the label language to the appointment.
