Canadian pharmacies expect mailed Ozempic orders to stop at the US border on October 22

Formal entry is the customs process built for commercial freight, and it needs an importer of record and a bond. The cheapest GLP-1 on our chart is $149 a month at Strut Health, with auto-refill.

US Customs and Border Protection published the rule on June 24, 2026, and set October 22 as the date mail carriers and importers must comply. The rule never names prescription drugs. It requires formal entry for any mail shipment subject to the requirements of another government agency, and the FDA sets the requirements for a prescription drug. That is how a customs rule reaches an Ozempic pen mailed from a Canadian pharmacy.

The Canadian International Pharmacy Association, the trade group for Canadian pharmacies that sell by mail, has posted a warning to US customers. The association says the customs broker most international postal services rely on cannot act as importer of record for a drug that is already sold in the United States. Its statement reads, "Unless those arrangements change, Americans should expect that virtually all routine personal prescription orders mailed from licensed Canadian and international pharmacies will be unable to reach them."

Ozempic and Wegovy are both sold in the United States, so both fall inside that description. The rule bans nothing. It changes who has to file what at the border, and the pharmacies say the filing is the part they cannot do.

If you order from Canada and your next refill falls after October 22, ask the pharmacy now what it will ship and when, and what it does if a parcel is held at the border.

Inside the United States the cash route is a telehealth program that bundles the visit and the medication into one monthly price. Strut Health holds the cheapest row on our chart. It sells compounded semaglutide, a pharmacy-made version that is not FDA-approved and is not Wegovy or Ozempic. For a brand-name drug the lowest price we track is $299 a month, for the Wegovy pill at the maintenance dose. The drugmaker's own pharmacy sells it. What Ozempic costs without insurance lists the cash routes for the pen itself.
