The recommendation came from the CHMP, the EMA committee that reviews new medicines, at its October 12 to 15 meeting. The EMA's summary lists Foundayo, whose generic name is orforglipron, under positive recommendations on new medicines. The applicant is Eli Lilly Nederland B.V. The listed use is "Treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults."
A committee opinion is not an approval. The EMA marks Foundayo as "pending EC decision": the European Commission has the final say, and until it rules the pill cannot be sold in the EU.
Foundayo is already approved in the United States, where the FDA cleared it in April 2026 for chronic weight management. Nothing in the EU opinion changes how it is sold or priced in the United States. Lilly sells it direct through LillyDirect, and the price rises with the dose. Foundayo cost without insurance lists every dose and the refill rule.
Foundayo is one of two FDA-approved weight-loss pills, along with the Wegovy pill. Unlike the Wegovy pill, it can be taken at any time of day with no food or water rules. In the phase 3 ATTAIN-1 trial, people on the top 36 mg dose lost 12.4% of their body weight on average over 72 weeks, against 0.9% on placebo. That is less than people lose on the weekly shots. How the pills compare with the injections covers the trade-off.
Five other new medicines got positive opinions at the same meeting, among them Rasonque (daraxonrasib), a pancreatic cancer drug.
If a pill is not a must, the cheapest GLP-1 on our chart is a telehealth program that bundles the visit and the medication into one monthly price. Collective holds that row at $76 a month, with the $199 yearly membership averaged in. It sells compounded semaglutide, a pharmacy-made version that is not FDA-approved and is not Wegovy or Ozempic. For a brand-name drug the lowest price we track is $299 a month, for the Wegovy pill at the maintenance dose, bought from the drugmaker.
We will update this page when the European Commission rules. Prices on the chart were last checked on October 12, 2026. Compare what 30 programs charge this week.
