Import Alert 66-40 lets US border officials hold a listed firm's shipments without examining them first. The FDA's list shows Chengdu Shengnuo Biopharm added on September 19 and Nanjing Chengong Pharmaceutical added on October 1, each for "All drugs and drug products." The charge on the alert is that a firm's manufacturing methods and controls do not appear to meet current good manufacturing practice. The alert says a listing may follow an FDA inspection that finds a plant is not following those rules.
The FDA list does not say what the plants made or what inspectors found. Bloomberg reported on October 15, from FDA inspection reports it obtained, that both plants made semaglutide and tirzepatide ingredients for compounded drugs. By Bloomberg's account, inspectors at Chengdu Shengnuo in August found black mold on equipment, insects in the ceilings and quality staff carrying documents out of the lab into lockers. At Nanjing Chengong in September, Bloomberg reported, staff bought ingredients made by other companies and put the firm's own release seal on them without checking the makers' test data.
The FDA list names no US pharmacy that bought from either plant and lists no recall.
Compounded semaglutide is a pharmacy-made version that is not FDA-approved and is not Wegovy or Ozempic. Compounded tirzepatide is likewise not Zepbound or Mounjaro. If you take one, ask your program which pharmacy fills it and where that pharmacy buys the ingredient.
If you would rather buy the brand-name drug, the lowest price we track is $299 a month, for the Wegovy pill at the maintenance dose, bought from the drugmaker. The cheapest compounded route on our chart is Collective at $76 a month, with the $199 yearly membership averaged in. What compounded GLP-1s are and what they cost covers the pharmacy-made route.
Prices on the chart were last checked on October 12, 2026. Compare what 30 programs charge this week.
