What this means in practice
Michigan Medicaid covers Wegovy and Zepbound for weight loss, but it tightened the rules twice, on January 1, 2026 and again on July 1, 2026. Your doctor has to get approval before you start, the step known as prior authorization. You now need a starting BMI of 40 or higher. You also have to try five other weight-loss drugs on the state's list and have them fail. That is the slow part, so ask your doctor to start it early.
