What this means in practice
Florida Medicaid does not cover GLP-1 for weight loss. Diabetes-indicated GLP-1 requires PA with documented step therapy through metformin and a sulfonylurea on most MCO formularies. PA denials are common.
Managed-care organizations in Florida
Florida Medicaid pays private health plans, called managed-care organizations or MCOs, to run its coverage. An MCO has to cover at least what the state list covers and can add rules of its own. Check your own plan's current rules before you send anything in.
