GLP-1 coverage in 2027: open enrollment dates and what to check

By GLP ChartDates read October 27, 2026

Three enrollment windows decide which plan pays for a GLP-1 in 2027. Medicare opens first, on October 15, 2026. The ACA Marketplace opens November 1 and federal employees' Open Season November 9. Each plan can change its drug list for the new year, so the plan that covered Wegovy or Zepbound in 2026 may not in 2027.

Four things to check before you pick a 2027 plan

  1. The drug list. Find Wegovy, Zepbound or the drug you take on the plan's 2027 list, not this year's.
  2. The use. Some plans cover a GLP-1 for diabetes, sleep apnea or heart risk and not for weight loss alone.
  3. Prior authorization. Most plans that cover these drugs want your doctor to file first.
  4. The tier. It sets your copay, and a brand-name GLP-1 often sits on a high one.
